Rollercoaster
Using this simple and elegant equipment module, your students observe potential and kinetic energy in action. As they work together using the Timer II and Photogates to make precise measurements and graphs, students learn how the marble exchanges height for speed. More advanced students can continue their exploration and discover the Law of Conservation of Energy as they develop explanations for the motion they observe. Measurements are accurate to within 1%, enabling further investigations into chaos,rotational motion, moments of inertia, and other fascinating phenomena. The Rollercoaster has a 1.29 meter track with a rubber surface to keep the marble from slipping as it rolls and a precise distance scale along the track to ensure accurate photogate placement.
If you look carefully, the scale of the Rollercoaster is compacted on the top of the hill and expanded at the bottom. This is because we designed the scale to measure along the path followed by the center of the marble. Our special attention to quality and detail is why our equipment performs so well for you!
